South Social meets Latin America @ Elephant Park

South Social is going outdoors! We occupy a brand new park, Elephant Park, behind Elephant & Castle station, with dancing, swinging, eating, drinking and binge watching of Latin American movies.

South Social meets Latin America is a true summer event open to families, children and everybody who wants to enjoy lying out in the grass, eating Latin American food from Colombia, Mexico, Chile and Argentina, having children engaged with fun activities and be free to wonder around and discover the world.

South Social meets Latin America is a trans-geographical, multicultural and multidimensional festival that will celebrate LATIN AMERICA by way of independent cinema, dance, world music, art and regional cuisine from 29-30 JUNE at the brand new Elephant park, in ELEPHANT & CASTLE.

The festival will run for a whole weekend and each day will be dedicated to a different country, exploring diversity and cultures to shine a light on the Latino community based in the area.

Friday 29th will be dedicated to ARGENTINA and we start the day with a Latin American dance workshop with Damarys Farres, a genuine passionate dancer, choreographer, teacher of​ Cuban/ Afro-Cuban dance. At 7pm con​cert with Brixton Cumbia Association,​ a fun, energetic collective recreating the best songs from their native country, Argentina. At 8:30pm screening of a classic black humour comedy WILD TALES by Damián Szifron. Six tales of ordinary madness produced by Almodovar.

On Saturday 30th the focus will be on COLOMBIA, launching a Latin American dance workshop with Elsa Pere​z, 82,​ has danced around the world, exploring dance from South America, the Caribbean and her own South Africa. She will teach and entertain the public with her wonderful dancing.

7pm C​oncert​ Nirk ​Molina Vallenato King, a shining light of the Colombian vallenato London scene, with his fusion of pop vocals and traditional music of the Colombian rural people. He embodies the very soul of Latin America Vallenato, which originated in the Valle de Upar in northeastern Colombia. To end a wonderful festival, a premiere of a Colombian comedy AMALIA the secretary by ​Andrés Burgos (2017 Colombia).

Launched in 2015, South Social Film Festival dedicates every unique event to a different country, turning it into a platform to celebrate diversity through art, cinema, world music and food for South London. Created and founded by Italian film journalist, Paola Melli, SSFF has nurtured a loyal clientele of film, music and food enthusiasts.
